Facts about Broccolini® baby broccoli
Special features
Perfection Fresh introduced Broccolini® baby broccoli to
Australians in 1999 - it is now one of the company's top selling
vegetable lines. A cross between broccoli and Gai Lan, also known
as Chinese kale, Broccolini® baby broccoli captures the best
characteristics of both green leafy vegetables. Its firm, yet
tender, asparagus-like stems are succulent from stem to flower,
require no peeling or scaling and are 100 per cent edible.
Broccolini® baby broccoli's tiny buds are similar to a mini
broccoli head, although darker green in colour and less compact in
appearance.
Flavour review
Delicious Broccolini® baby broccoli is revered for its sweet,
delicate flavour which has a subtle peppery "edge". The flavour of
Broccolini® becomes milder and sweeter when cooked and it has a
texture less fibrous than either broccoli or asparagus. It adds
crunch, colour and texture to a diversity of dishes.
Nutritional profile
Broccolini® baby broccoli is naturally low in energy, kilojoules,
calories, fat and sugars. It is a good source of folate, required
for healthy cells and is also a great source of Vitamin C,
providing more than three quarters of daily needs in one serving.
Broccolini® baby broccoli is also a source of dietary fibre for a
healthy digestive system.
