Attention foodies - it's the king of grapes!

Attention foodies - it's the king of grapes!

Decadent elongated, luscious berries in silky black skins full of sweet, juicy goodness - Midnight Beauty® seedless black grapes are the king of Aussie grapes.

These indulgent fresh snacking summer grapes stand out as one of the few full-flavoured, crunchy AND seedless black grapes available in Australia.

They make their first appearance in-store in November and are available right through the warmer months until next March.

Impressively large berries and outstanding colour make these relative newcomers to the Aussie grape scene perfect for creating festive season and summer entertaining recipes in your spring and summer issues.

Midnight Beauty® - the ultimate summer snack

The true connoisseurs' grape, Midnight Beauty® is the ultimate snack. Refreshing and satisfying, they are best eaten chilled straight off the bunch where their pure, delicate flavour can be fully appreciated.

Full-bodied and firm, Midnight Beauty® is perfect for the Aussie palate which favours super-sweet crunchy grapes.

Midnight Beauty® grapes also work beautifully in savoury or sweet dishes where they add a splash of exotic colour and hold their shape when cut. Their sweetness provides a contrast to chicken, beef, pork or fish and complements creamy, cheesy tastes and textures.

Indulge with Midnight Beauty®

  • Wrap whole Midnight Beauty® grapes in thinly sliced prosciutto and thread onto skewers, alternating with mozzarella balls and basil leaves.
  • Sauté Midnight Beauty® grapes in a creamy, white wine sauce and spoon over pan-roasted chicken breast.
  • Halve chilled Midnight Beauty® grapes and add to shredded chicken or beef and avocado nestled on a bed of leafy greens.
  • Rinse a bunch of Midnight® Beauty grapes, dry well and freeze overnight. The next day you will have bite-sized balls of grape ice - luxurious to drop into cocktails or serve as poolside refreshments.

Grapes are SO good for you

Midnight Beauty® grapes are rich in compounds known as phytonutrients - active substances in plant foods which appear to fight disease and enhance health. They are also fat free and a good source of dietary fibre for a healthy digestive system.

Selection and storage

Choose Midnight Beauty® grapes with a uniform colour, virtually intact "bloom" (silvery coating on the skin) and fresh green stems. Store unwashed in the fridge, rinse before use and use within four days.

Where to find them

Midnight Beauty® seedless black grapes are widely available. Look for them at your supermarket or greengrocer where they are sold loose by the bunch.

Where they are grown

Midnight Beauty® seedless black grapes are grown in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Grape facts

  • The coating on grapes is a natural bloom which protects the fruit's freshness. It's not dust!
  • Aussie-grown grapes are slightly sweeter than imported grapes because of the huge range of climates, elevations and latitutdes they are grown in.
  • It takes up to 25 years to develop a grape variety commercially.
Australian-grown Midnight Beauty® seedless black grapes were first sent to market in 2006 following years of trials and testing.
  • Midnight Beauty® grapes were bred in the early 1990s by Sun World researchers in California.
  • The first commercial crop was harvested in 1997.
  • Grapes develop natural sugars as they ripen on the vine but do not become sweeter once picked. They are sold ripe and ready to eat!
