Australia's first Magenta™ melons in-store soon!

Australia's first Magenta™ melons in-store soon!

Roll over rockmelons - new variety Magenta™ melons, grown in Australia for the first time, will be in-store by Christmas and they're set to shake-up the melon scene.

What distinguishes Magenta™ melons is their intense bright orange flesh and super-sweet taste. They have been specially bred to retain these attributes all year `round - no matter what the season.

The colour of Magenta melons' flesh is more akin to a papaya than the pale rockmelons Aussies have grown used to. They also contain much more natural sugar resulting in a sweet, refreshing taste.

Perfect for eating fresh, tossing into salads or enhancing platters, their striking colour puts orange at the centrepiece for this summer's festive entertaining ideas.

Perfection Fresh Australia has the exclusive rights to grow Magenta™ melons in Australia and predicts this is the right melon to win over all Aussie melon fans. Watch for the first in-store in mid-November.

About Magenta™ melons

A favourite in Europe, Magenta™ melons have a distinctive burnt-orange flesh, sweet aroma and juicy yet firm flesh, surrounding a small seed cavity. Their skin has a dramatic netted appearance.

How to enjoy Magenta™ melons

  • Cube and add to a mixed leaf salad with creamy vinaigrette.
  • Contrast with salty and spiced foods such as feta or prosciutto.
  • Cut into chunks and sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper.
  • Serve chunks with vanilla icecream and halved macadamias.
  • Drizzle with your favourite liqueur.
  • Whizz in a blender with natural yoghurt for a healthy smoothie.

How to select and store

Magenta™ melons are picked ripe and ready to eat and do not ripen further. Store in a cool, dry place and use within a few days. Once cut, store in a sealed container and keep in the fridge. They will last 10-14 days if stored properly.

Outlets

Magenta™ melons are available at all leading supermarkets and independent retail outlets nationally (except Western Australia). They are sold whole or cut, depending on the outlet.

Where they are grown

Magenta™ melons are grown in Australia's traditional melon-growing regions including Katherine and Berry Springs in the Northern Territory and in Chinchilla, Queensland.
