Vine Sweet Minicaps® baby capsicums - good things come in threes

Vine Sweet Minicaps® baby capsicums - good things come in threes

Vine Sweet Minicaps® baby capsicums are one of the few fresh produce lines grown and presented as a trio of the most spectacular colours under the sun - red, orange and yellow in one pack.

With glossy skin, a firm, crunchy texture and sweet taste, these specially developed baby vegies are high on plate appeal and almost entirely edible.

Mix and match the three complementary colours or prepare them separately for a burst of intensity.

In the field, red, orange and yellow Vine Sweet Minicaps® grow on separate bushes. All emerge as green fruit, revealing their true colours as they begin to ripen. Once the individual colours are fully developed, the capsicums are picked.

Vine-ripened under the sun for maximum flavour, Vine Sweet Minicaps® are picked at the same time, then packed together.

Vine Sweet Minicaps® can be sliced, diced, stuffed, grilled, sautéed, roasted or char-grilled. Use their bright, fun colours to liven up curries, pasta dishes, mini tartlets, frittatas or pizzas.

Three reasons to choose Vine Sweet Minicaps®

They're snack-size. Finger-length Vine Sweet Minicaps® measure between five and seven centimetres and are elongated in shape. They are perfect for stuffing as entreés, side dishes or finger foods. They can be halved lengthways, stuffed and presented as an open snack or the stem-end can be cut off and stuffings spooned inside, keeping the baby capsicums whole.

They're virtually seedless. There is very little waste, other than the stem-end to chop away, although it may be left intact for effect. This makes them quick and easy to prepare.

They're tasty. Appealingly sweet and easy for little fingers to grip, Vine Sweet Minicaps® can also be eaten fresh and raw as a snack or sliced finely and tossed into salads. Yellow Vine Sweet Minicaps® are usually the sweetest of the three, followed by orange, then red.

Selecting and storing
Tri-coloured Vine Sweet Minicaps® are sold in 175g packs. Keep them in their pack in the crisper section of the refrigerator and use within seven days.

Outlets and seasonality
Vine Sweet Minicaps® baby capsicums are available all year `round. Look for them at Woolworths, Coles and independent retail outlets nationally.

Growing methods
Vine Sweet Minicaps® are a Perfection Fresh specialty line. They are grown in Griffith, New South Wales and Bundaberg and Caboolture in Queensland.

Growers practice a variety of innovative techniques including training bushes on trellises under shadehouses and in poly tunnels. These methods protect them from extreme weather and ensure year-round supply.

Three growers' serving suggestions

  • Fry some chopped bacon, mushrooms, spring onions and Worcestershire sauce. Cut the ends off Vine Sweet Minicaps® and stuff. Sprinkle with cheese, lightly grill and drizzle with olive oil, balsamic and garnish with coriander.
  • Halve Vine Sweet Minicaps® lengthways and fill with leftover mince, pine nuts and mozzarella. Season and lightly grill until cheese melts.
  • Halve Vine Sweet Minicaps®, along with a tomato and grill. Toss capsicums and tomato together with some fresh olive oil, basil and chopped spring onions and eat with a crusty bread.
