Passionfruit
Native to Brazil, passionfruit now grows all over the world and was introduced to Australia in the early 1900s. Passionfruit is round to oval in shape with the fruit's colour ranging from yellow to purple. The strong leathery skin contains a multitude of small, black edible seeds.
Seasonality
Available from January to December.
Serving suggestion
Eat fresh by cutting in half and scooping out the seeds, scatter seeds over ice cream, pavolva filled with mixed tropical fruit or strain to make into sorbet.
Did you know?
Passionfruit takes its name from the fruit's exotic flower, which is said to symbolise the "passion of Christ".
