Figs Australia's specialty La Bella Figura™ figs are a strain of leading commercial variety, Black Genoa. Following considerable research and development, the variety was selected for its consistently sweet flavour and rich, dark skin colour.
While figs are traditionally produced on trees, Figs Australia's plants are cultivated on two metre trellises - providing easy access for pickers during harvest and maximising yield.
The shadecloth structure covering the crop provides protection while allowing enough sunlight to penetrate the plant for the production of 100 per cent fruiting wood. At maturity, La Bella Figura™ figs have a thin, dark purple skin, with tiny red edible seeds and white flesh.
The delicate fruit is harvested daily during Figs Australia's season between January and June. Figs Australia also produces a smaller volume of white fleshed figs, grown on trellises under tunnels and available between January and March.
The figs are carefully picked and packed by hand and immediately chilled prior to despatching to Perfection Fresh in Sydney.
La Bella Figura™ figs are distributed to retail outlets around Australia and Perfection Fresh's market stands in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Sold as an exotic line, they are available loose and in packs of three and four.
