WHY NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS FAIL

As we farewell 2020 and welcome in 2021, celebrations with fireworks and friends often involve setting new year’s resolutions. And eating Calypso® mangoes of course, but we’ll talk about that later.
New Years 2021

The beginning of a new year offers hope for a fresh start, a clean slate where we finally take the time to improve ourselves and create a better life with more of what we dream of in it.

INSPIRED, MOTIVATED AND ENERGISED

we imagine this coming year will be different from the last and declare that we will be

HEALTHIER, FITTER, CALMER, PRODUCTIVE,

MINIMALISTIC AND MUCH MORE MINDFUL

These New Year's resolutions, the declarations of things we intend to accomplish, are more often than not, distant memories by the time Australia Day sets in, with only 8% of New Year’s Resolutions being accomplished, according to Forbes.com.

There’s a number of common themes that unsuccessful resolutions share. Why is that the moment of inspiration and the spark of motivation felt so intensely on December 31st doesn’t translate into lasting change and life changing results?

  1. Too much too soon
We choose a goal that requires a full life overhaul and with too many changes needed all at once we, unsurprisingly, feel overwhelmed and give up.
  2. Vague and undefined
Vague New Years resolutions lead to vague results, if any at all. What exactly does ‘be healthier’ mean?

  3. Focus on the end goal without an action plan
When we fail to plan, we plan to fail and most resolutions don’t have any thought put into the steps needed to map out how we are going to achieve them.

  4. Out of sight out of mind
We allow the vision that motivated us in the first place to get pushed aside by the priorities of friends, family work and life.
