By employing innovative growing techniques unique to Australia, Figs Australia - a joint venture between experienced fig producer Tony Catanzariti and Perfection Fresh Australia - has set out to boost domestic production of the exotic fruit.

Established in 2009, Figs Australia has more than 2.4 hectares of specialty La Bella Figura® figs under cultivation in high density growing conditions near Griffith, New South Wales.

It is believed to be the only producer in Australia and among only a handful in the world to grow figs on a sophisticated trellis system under a fully enclosed shadecloth environment - a method which protects the traditionally fragile fruit from wind, rain, hail and frost damage and extreme sunlight, resulting in larger fruit with a consistent skin quality, sweet flavour and high yield.

The joint venture was established after Mr Catanzariti and Perfection Fresh identified an opportunity in Australia's relatively small fresh fig market to increase production and cater for increasing demand for Australian-grown exotic, premium fig lines.
