- The steamer basket should NOT come into direct contact with the boiling water.
- It’s also possible to use a metal colander.
HOW TO STEAM BROCCOLINI
Step 1:Pour enough water into a wok, frying pan or saucepan so it’s 2-3cm / 1 inch deep. Place a steamer basket over the top and bring the water to a boil over high heat. The surface of the water should be just under the basket, so add / reduce water accordingly.
Step 2: Once the water has come to a boil, add the Broccolini® to the steamer basket.
Step 3: Cover and steam for 3-4 minutes, until bright green and just tender when tested with a skewer. Depending on the size of the basket, this may need to be done in batches. Note that the steamer basket needs to be covered for the duration of the cooking process.
Step 4: Carefully remove the Broccolini® into a bowl or serving plate. Pour over the dressing or seasoning of choice. We have used Gochuchang and finished the dish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Once you’ve learnt how to steam Broccolini®, you can serve with anything that you want. We love a drizzle of chipotle or sriracha mayo, harrisa mint dressing, or a dollop of green goddess sauce. Or you can season with salt, pepper, and red chili flakes (if you love heat!). Garlic butter, toasted seeds & nuts such as flaked almonds, and sesame seeds can be added for texture and crunch.
It’s a great side to any weeknight meal, and for entertaining as well. It also makes for a great school lunch or after school snack with your favourite dip or sauce.
